We are throwing light on another “higher education” fiasco. This time (THE) Ohio State University wins the prize as the most wasteful. The OSU Board of Trustees hired Kristina Johnson in September, 2020, after spending nearly $500,000 in search fees and expenses. In 2021, she was awarded a $23,000 annual raise and a $263,500 bonus. During this year’s completion of her Performance Evaluation something(?) was discovered that not only stopped the Evaluation process but also prompted the Board to give her a choice: resign or be fired. She opted to resign. No details have yet come forth. And mainstream media is painting a picture that this kind of thing happens a lot due to the pressures of the job, blah, blah, blah. The Board should be required to explain what happened; what they discovered; whether criminal activities were detected; what they learned about their bad decision-making; and how they will handle hiring her replacement. If we were an OSU parent we would insist on complete transparency. And also stay tuned for any “severance payments” to be made. It seems totally inappropriate to award severance payments to someone who failed to complete her initial contract term.
