THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL COMMENTARY–DESPITE WHAT YOU MAY THINK. Big picture: the Federal Government has very rarely operated on a fiscally sound basis. It almost always spends more than it takes in by taxation. So the budget deficit continues to add to the national debt–now standing at over $31 trillion. While there should be no justification for spending over budget every year it might be more acceptable if the government used those funds to provide needed services. But that is clearly NOT the case. Examples: a postal service that fails to meet even its own low performance standards. A Department of Labor that fails to enforce the laws it has sworn to uphold. An FBI constantly under attack for misdeeds. A Federal Open Market Committee that fails to control inflation. A Supreme Court that allows liars to make judgments that affect all Americans every day. Small failures can sometimes work themselves out by accidental developments. But complete failures at every level and by every funded department multiply the negative inefficiency of government and take us beyond adjustment–the point of no return. AS WE SAID EARLIER, THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL COMMENT. Both the Biden and the Trump Administrations appointed department personnel and continue to tolerate the disastrous application of tax dollars to bad management. It needs to stop. Eventually–and we see this even now–interest rates to sell government bonds (loans) will make it impossible for America to grow. As government interest costs increase–so will the private sector interest cost increase until it becomes too expensive to borrow for most companies–UNLESS THEY RAISE PRICES FOR PRODUCED GOODS. And that’s the inflationary spiral. The Federal budget has not operated in a surplus position since the Clinton Administration and, before that period, no one can remember a surplus ever being reported. An internal management agency needs to be established with strict guidelines–reportable to the Office of the President and directly communicating to the American people.
