In a previous blog posting we said that the abortion laws in the US–since the abandonment of Roe v. Wade represent a “totally unworkable national disaster”. Several “red” states have legislated severely restrictive abortion laws–some banning ALL abortions. This alone has caused a major furor because the vast majority of Americans favor at least some abortion leeway. Then corporations announced that they would cover not only abortions costs but also help with any necessary travel expenses associated with an abortion for their employees. Then Senator Lindsey Graham–sensing that the GOP will certainly lose a huge voter block with their abortion fiasco–announced that he favors a Federal abortion ban at 15 weeks. This screws up all the “red” states laws theory that abortion should be a states rights issue–as well as accepting abortion on a more liberal basis than ANY red state. Now enter the Veterans Administration which has reported that it will indeed cover abortions regardless of where the veteran lives…that sure cleared things up for us. It would be overkill for us to cite examples of what this mess of viewpoints will cause. Suffice it to say that the GOP has shot itself in both feet and maybe other body parts as well. Keep talking, Republicans, the hole is getting deeper.
