If you read this blog consistently you know we reflect on ad dollars are their impact. We thought you’d be interested to know how significant the ad dollar impact really is. What follows is a list of long-ago cancelled TV shows that were popular in their day. We will give you the name of the program, the star of the show, the amount of “residual” money from ad dollars their stars still receive today and the last year the TV program ended active production. Here goes…”Everybody Loves Raymond”, Ray Romano, $18 million/year, last produced 2005; “ER”, George Clooney, $13 million/yr., 2009; “Home Improvement”, Tim Allen, $18 million/yr., 1999; “NCIS”, Mark Harmon, $60 million/yr., still active,; “Seinfeld”, Jerry Seinfeld, $110 million/yr., 1998; “Frasier”, David Hyde Pierce (Niles–not the main player), $40 million/yr., 1993; “Friends”, EACH MEMBER OF THE MAIN CAST, $20 million/yr. EACH, 2004. But the show that really amazed us is one most people in this country are unfamiliar with…I Love Lucy, Lucille Ball, $17 million/yr., 1957. (This is being paid to her estate. Lucy died many years ago.) Remember you’re paying the cost to advertise these programs as part of the cost of the advertisers product. This also indicates how protective the networks are of their programming.
