Ok, we have two camps of thought here. The liberal side wants to open our doors for immigrants because “that’s what made America great”–we’re all immigrants–right? And the conservative side says “they’re taking our jobs, using up our resources and present a criminal element into our country”. Both side are right–to a degree. The problem is: neither side wants to concede any ground to the other side. Immigrants have made this country great but they may also represent an undesirable criminal invasion. Unfortunately, the word “compromise” and the word “collaboration” are missing from the dialog. Here’s our suggested plan to solve the problem: First, involve Mexico. If Mexico stopped migration across their southern border, we would have no issue here. Second, establish a common region for immigrants to reside on a permanent basis using land adjacent to the Rio Grande river. Third, agree with Mexico to limit the number of future immigrants across their southern border–at lease temporarily. This will give both countries time to set up joint facilities, proper vetting in both countries and establish supportive infrastructure for a permanent settlement. Fourth, allow both countries to encourage business development in the newly formed region so as to assure long term success. This may seem an involved process but the problem is very complicated. We have a desirable country and, like water seeking its own level, families come from less-than-desirable home countries to live safely. They don’t necessarily want America; they want separation from the oppression in their former home countries. This suggestion will accomplish that. The fly in the ointment (or the devil in the details–if you prefer) is that American political parties need to work together to solve the problem. As it stands now, the Party in power does very little and the opposition Party criticizes them. This has been the status quo forever and that’s why the problem grows daily. If you disagree with our suggestion, we invite you to supply a better idea.
