This are quick comments that are intended to offer a different “take” on current events.

(1) The GOP wants to step up school security as a solution to the nut job gun massacres like in Uvalde, Texas. Question: what about Buffalo, South Carolina churches, Las Vegas concerts, etc. Even if we beef up school security, the unstable gun violence will be re-directed away from schools and towards more accessible targets. Let’s address the gun ownership problem. Vote your conscience when you decide which candidate supports your concern about gun law restrictions.

(2) The January 6th Committee’s real concern is the attempted coup that almost happened. They were and are concerned that our democratic form of government was and still is in jeopardy. If such a coup were to happen a form of dictatorship-autocracy would emerge that vests power in the hands of a relatively few individuals backed by military support. How is that fear any different than the overturning of Roe v. Wade? Are we seeing a few individuals (9 Justices) making a decision that they know is NOT supported by the vast majority of Americans? Maybe the Justices of the Supreme Court don’t need military backing because they have the authority that the US Constitution grants them—but they still have a duty to govern a democracy that is “of the people, for the people and by the people”. Is this unprovoked reversal of a 50 year old decision not an attack on the democratic principle of majority rule? The justices can spoof all the legalese they can muster but the truth is most people want the Roe standard to remain the law of the land. To abandon an existing rule of law without some change of condition is purely a political move that the NOT-SO-SUPREME COURT is supposed to factor into its thought process.

(3) Fox News is really in a no-win situation. They do not want to give air time to the January 6th Committee Hearings but their advertisers disagree vehemently. After seeing 20 million viewers pop up on the ratings sheets, the ad people who pay Fox want to see their dollars fully utilized. Fox loses because money always wins over political bias.

(4) Gas prices are a joke. A 4% drop in world oil supply (Russia) cannot produce a 60% increase in gas prices. This is a case of gas/oil industry price gouging. They saw a chance to jump on the inflation bandwagon and use that as an excuse to pad their profits. The president is right to call them out and the price of gas should stabilize and drop in the next two to three weeks. And remember, the Russia-Ukraine war will still be going on in two to three weeks so the same 4% drop in global oil will still be relevant–it just won’t have as much impact on the price at the pump.
