Ok, we get it…networks are in business that runs on ad dollars. The more ad dollars the happier the network execs. So have you noticed how EVERY EVENT is ramped up to its most sensational level? News stories are emblazoned as “breaking news!!!!” Commentators dramatize EVERY STORY. Even the weather people warn us that a Level 1 Marginal Risk for severe weather is possible. It’s worth noting that after all the meteorological training and millions of dollars of equipment the best they can say is “it might rain and it might not”. The weather-speak is a chance of a pop up shower. That way they can’t possibly be wrong–it’s called CYA. We are being managed for the purpose of keeping us glued to the TV and more importantly to the ads. That’s what rating services are all about. The longer viewers endure TV time the better the justification of ad money. As we’ve said before “Record all your programs, watch them in half the time and avoid the mindless brainwashing of seeing the same commercial messages over and over.”
