If you’ve read previous posts you’ve seen how others (Donald J Trump, Steven Bannon, Roger Stone, Rudy Guiliani, etc.) have broken serious laws and suffered no consequences. We have two more instances to report. Case number one: Jussie Smollett. After falsely reporting a hate crime, causing a major uproar in Chicago (that is, nearly inciting a riot), costing the City of Chicago several hundred thousands of dollars in police investigations and court time over a period of nearly three years, he was convicted of committing 5 felonies. His sentence was 150 days in jail, restitution of some of the wasted tax payer dollars and some community service time. WOW…DID THEY THROW THE BOOK AT HIM!!! You’ll note that despite all the damage done by his law breaking and steadfast denial of any wrongdoing he was released last week after serving all of 4 days!!!! The good news is: the next time you’re in Chicago and commit up to 5 felonies your attorney can use the “Smollett” precedent and hand you a “get out of jail free” card. The case was solidly proven by witnesses, accomplices, a video recording and other evidence. And despite all this Smollett refused to acknowledge any guilt. (maybe he and his attorney thought “hey–denial worked for Trump–let’s go that way”) At last report Jussie is considering a lawsuit against the City for damaging his reputation and impairing his ability to earn a living. Let’s hope the next judge doesn’t give him the key to the city. Case number two: Calvin Ridley, pro football player. He was discovered to have bet on football games including possibly his own team. This, of course, breaks a foundational law within the football industry. But, instead of being banned for life (remember Pete Rose) he was suspended for the next season. Ask yourself: “if Pete is banished from the Hall of Fame and baseball forever, how does one justify suspending a footballer for only one year?” Both of these stories could have been posted in our blog under the “NEVER SEEN IN THE MAINSTREAM PRESS” category; but it seemed more like an unfairness report issue more than a “let’s ignore the story” angle. You be the judge on both. Are these crimes without punishment…are we seeing more of this kind of “justice’ every day? And isn’t it scary?
