Ever since the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan and the weapons of war evolved to the nuclear level our world has sat on the doorstep of oblivion. Several nations have the power to obliterate all life. For over 65 years we have all believed that no nuclear-powered nation would push the button because they would not survive the retaliation impact. But that logic is dependent on rational human beings at the switch. And now the question is: is Putin–as desperate as his power has corrupted him– willing to/able to back away from the nuclear option he has introduced into the Ukrainian discussion? We’re sure that he is counting on the threat alone to use nuclear weapons as the basis for getting what he wants–whatever that is. But, can a ruthless dictator lose a battle and not jeopardize his power standing in his homeland? If Putin is rebuffed, will he survive as the undisputed leader of Russia? As a history lesson…Captain James Cook, the famous British explorer, was regarded as a god by the Hawaiian natives until he showed weakness by catching a common cold. Realizing he wasn’t a god, the natives hacked him to death. Is that the fate Putin fears? and if so, do you think he will go away quietly?
