In a previous post we outlined “Crime without Punishment” and it appears that we were more prophetic than we realized. The Trump Organization as you probably know has been under investigation by the State of New York for questionable business practices. Recently the Trump long-time accounting firm resigned their duties and very publicly separated themselves from Trump. This almost never happens unless the accounting firm fears that something will come to light that could cost them either in money damages or reputation or both. So we now have a new prosecutor in charge of the criminal case. Within a month of his assumption of that role, the two chief investigators in the Federal prosecutors office abruptly resigned. Hmmmm… And shortly thereafter, the new guy on the scene speculated that he did not feel that the evidence warranted a continuing probe. So after months of legal digging and millions of pages of documents and–in light of the accounting firm resignation–there doesn’t seem to be enough potential criminality to pursue the case. Our take: either the new guy was threatened or bribed or both to drop the case. If this was purely a legal determination why would the accounting firm and the two “bright young assistants” leave so suddenly? Something stinks. Back to the top line, “crime without punishment” seems to be the order of the day. Now the question is: will the two “departees” or the accounting firm leak whatever they know about the behind-the-scenes developments? Stay tuned…we can only hope that some truth will emerge that clears the air.
