First, this is NOT a commentary on alternate lifestyles. Human beings are animals and currently it is estimated that 10% to 15% of us are gay. As we consider other animals around us we wondered whether horses, pigs, elephants and the rest of the “animal kingdom” had gay members. It turns out that “gay” behavior (as defined by an attraction to one’s own gender–trying to avoid using the word “sex”) is a fairly common observation among those who notice such things. Ok so how does a zoo weed out a gay hippopotamus to avoid paying for breeding that won’t happen? Or how does a horse breeder avoid paying stud fees when the horse owner suspects gay tendencies? There may be some form of medicinal stimulus to effect “putting him in the mood”–as it may be called; but is this a real issue when breeding is the goal? FYI, in Saudi Arabia, where gay behavior is a serious crime, even “gay” horses are threatened with execution. Recently a very valuable race horse was observed exhibiting gay activities and is now on the chopping block–literally. A beheading is under consideration. We offer this info to you as an attempt to broaden your horizon. We’ll guess that you haven’t given this much thought in the past. Now you know. COMMENT VIA E MAIL: AVFEEDBACK@aol.com
