Every US senator takes the following Oath of Office:
I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. (remember January 6th?)…and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter; so help me God.
Among the official duties are the following: (1) BUID BIPARTISAN RELATIONSHIPS; (2) NEGOTIATE WITH THOSE WHO DISAGREE; (3) UPHOLD THE CONSTITUTION; AND (4) SERVE AS MODELS FOR US DEMOCRACY, CULTURE, VALUES AND CONDUCT. (Source: THE CONGRESSIONAL MANAGEMENT FOUNDATION)
On May 5, 2021, Senator Mitch McConnell who has served in Congress for nearly 40 years as both the Senate Majority and Minority Leader said: “I am 100% focused on stopping the Biden agenda”. Dozens of GOP members of Congress have publicly joined that perspective despite the Oath they took NOT to do exactly what McConnell said. If Mitch were an employee of any company and decided on his own to ABANDON his job duties he would be immediately dismissed. But in the governing body of the most dominant country on earth he persists in obstructive behavior that benefits no one and reflects poorly on his honor. Remember that when you vote the next time.
