Historians are quick to point out that almost all revolutions are economically driven. Basically the “have-nots” say “enough!!” and take forcefully what they cannot obtain legally. Check out revolts in Cuba, Brazil, Russia and other countries. We all were taught about the French Revolution and the Queen Marie Antoinette comment “let them eat cake” when she was told the peasants have no bread to eat. Fast forward to present-day America. The top 1 percent of Americans control more wealth than the bottom 40%…and each year this disparity grows. Not only are the rich getting richer but they are helped by the politicians they send to Congress. The tit-for-tat exchange is: the wealthy fund the politicians campaigns and the politicians reduce the tax burdens and make other tax law changes that pay the wealthy back for campaign funds. This vicious cycle produces the downward spiral that concentrates wealth in the elite wealthy. If we don’t see the similarity with those countries mentioned above then we are guilty of the old saying “those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it”. Let’s hope the circle of greed can be stopped before the inevitable happens.
