Sometimes it’s really hard to admit an obvious fact. Our “Made in America” boast is a dwindling reality. From the industrial revolution and the early days of people like Henry Ford, John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie and others, we prided ourselves on our manufacturing capacity that–back then–was unmatched by any other country. That sadly is no more. Our system–financial, political and technological–has declined over the past century and we now find that we are far behind other nations in almost all important manufacturing efforts. Let’s simplify. Successful manufacturing is based on two factors, quality and cost. Let’s use an industry we are all familiar with–automobiles. Look at the latest quality rankings for autos and you’ll find Hyundai, Kia, BMW, Lexus and Mercedes in the top 10 for all-around quality. As to cost, even the more expensive foreign models (Lexus, Mercedes, etc.) are comparable in price to American-made autos. The proof is visible on roads everywhere. The next time you get behind the wheel take a quick survey of the cars around you. You’ll see that most are foreign-born. This is just one industry. Consider appliances, clothing, tools, computer chips–just to name a few. Our quality is poor and our prices are high or equal to imported products. Would you buy American-made inferior items at inflated prices? Think on-the-road auto survey to see reality. NEXT TIME: WHY THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL CONTINUES.
