Recently the Governors of Tennessee, South Dakota and Texas conspired to have a detachment of National Guard troops sent to the Texas/Mexican border to address the immigration issue. This action is obviously intended to embarrass the Biden Administration by implying that Republican Governors can handle the situation even if Washington cannot. A publicity ploy to gain attention and criticize Democratic efforts. We’re wondering why no one mentioned Article 10 of the US Constitution which states “NO STATE SHALL, WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF CONGRESS…KEEP TROOPS, ENTER INTO ANY AGREEMENT WITH ANOTHER STATE UNLESS INVADED (sic by a foreign government). The term is “NATIONAL GUARD” and the implication is quite clear. These troops are to be controlled by and from Washington in times of emergencies. Having a state order the Guard to deploy without Washington approval is like having a lieutenant change his Commanding Officer’s battle strategy. The irony to all this is that the big Trump (Republican) immigration “move” over a 4 year period was to waste millions on a partial wall that was doomed from the beginning. You remember the wall, right? That was the wall Mexico was going to pay for. Let’s not even mention the incarceration and separation of hundreds of young children in less-than-poverty living conditions for several months. So the same political party that failed miserably to address immigration for 4 years has now hijacked the National Guard to address the problem largely created by and ignored by the leader of their own party. Seems to make sense to me—how do you see it?
