Ever since Donald Trump took office and facts became unimportant, fantasy limits have disappeared. After tallying nearly 20,000 lies by the Trump Administration almost all networks (except Fox–of course) stopped reporting his false statements. Using the standard rule that “I can say/do anything I want”, it has become fashionable to not only ignore truth but to exaggerate the falsehood by doubling down. We have reached the point where the lies are so ridiculous that they prove themselves to be false. Some examples: GOP Congressional members are now backing away from the January 6th riot as an insurrection event—despite the fact that 5 people died (including a member of the Capitol guard), 140 people were injured and nearly 500 people arrested. Just ignoring the event wasn’t enough…now a GOP member is willing to be videotaped saying that the whole event was just another tourist visit. Does anyone having any intelligence buy that explanation of the mob attack? The next example is something called “skinny shaming”. Apparently fat people are tired of being singled out so they got together and decided to switch the spotlight to skinny people. They want us to believe that there is a growing movement in America to shame the “skinny”. Does anyone know the term “red herring”? It’s a ploy to divert attention. By conjuring up sympathy for those poor unfortunate “skinny” people, the “fats” are trying to start a wave of eliminating the implications of overweight–along with those skinny targets. Suddenly it’s not the 60% who are obese that need to be defended—it’s anyone who might be a target. It should be noted that not all obese people could lose weight. Some are limited by physical restrictions; some just prefer to be “heavy”. We’re not saying “being overweight” is criminal. We are saying that the “skinny shaming” movement is an attempt to shift the focus away from those who have been targeted for years. A final example of coming full circle is a recent medical opinion. While the world tries to encourage vaccinations against COVID, a (GOP- leaning) MD in Ohio has released a statement that people should not be vaccinated because it will make them “magnetic” and convert their bodies into 5 G transformers. Why did we not see that coming? Thank God someone finally got it right. I guess all the other vaccinations pre-COVID didn’t have a magnetic aspect because 5 G hadn’t evolved yet. We should all worry when truth is unfashionable, lies are standard operating procedure and exaggeration of those lies to ridiculous extremes becomes reality to many otherwise sane people.
