Our Mothers were fond of saying “how would you like it if I did that to you?” So we ask the question: how would you like to be told that your child, parent, spouse, or best friend was gunned down by a madman during a senseless act of violence? Guns don’t kill people; but “nut jobs” do. So the most obvious priority is to separate the guns from the nut jobs. Unfortunately that is almost impossible for several reasons. Yes, there are sociopaths who kill without remorse but many people kill out of emotional reactions. Simple acts like a traffic incident can lead to what the courts call “temporary insanity”. Some domestic violence can kill the innocent after a stressful exchange of words. The truth: we can’t anticipate who will kill.

Conclusion: Gun laws need to be strengthened. We could list many suggestions but the key here to all those suggestions is to keep as many guns out of the hands of unstable people as possible.

Some will say “they’ll just find other ways to get their guns so stricter laws won’t work”. If we used that logic, we probably wouldn’t have any laws because getting around every law seems to be the full time occupation of a large percentage of the population. Some one needs to start the ball rolling or we face a daily slaughter in every venue in every city all across America, We don’t want to hear the police boast about how soon they responded. By that time a lot of people are either dead or injured. Remedy is not good enough. Prevention is where we should put our money.
