Did you happen to watch the Men’s Final game in the NCAA basketball tournament? If so, you were treated to an interesting contest with Baylor emerging as the 2021 Champs. But you were also “treated” to nearly 200 commercial interruptions–not including screen-overs and voice-overs promoting other TV programs and products/services. You were held hostage for more than 90 minutes so the networks could fill their pockets with ad money. Are you OK with that? Because, if you are, it will get worse. As the networks slowly convert to more ad time and less programming content, you will start to think about what we do in our house. We tape ALL PROGRAMS. This allows us to avoid ad time, save time to allow us to watch more of our programs and still conduct our lives’ other functions. Note that the networks have sold so much ad time that, in a typical TV hour, the viewer will see the same commercial message at least 3 or 4 times. That’s not advertising—it’s brainwashing!!! One-third of all TV broadcast time is commercial ads. More to come…
