Answer: Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Sam Snead. No, wrong. Have you heard the name Count Yogi? Now, before you scoff at this as a “put-on”, do an internet search. You will be amazed at what you find–I guarantee it!! From his humblest beginnings through a long playing and coaching career Count Yogi displayed incredible golfing talent using what we consider today as primitive equipment. In the few matches he played against the touring pros of his day, he always won. Many pros refused to challenge him. It was said that among his 7,000 recorded strokes he never mis-hit a single shot. His competitive skills were second to none; he taught lessons back in the day for the prices being charged NOW and touring pros gladly paid him. He wrote a book “Five Simple Steps to Perfect Golf”. The hard cover version– if you can find one– sells for about $1,300; and the E version goes for $150. I won’t bore you with his stats but check out Count Yogi. Even if you’re not a golfer you’ll find his accomplishments worth repeating. So why have you never heard of him? Rumor has it that the official tour in those days banned him from professional competition because he was part native-American. The truth of the matter seems to be lost in the pages of history. COUNT YOGI, a name to remember the next time you tee it up with your buddies.
